Volunteer-led organisation seeks pragmatic approach during the COVID19 pandemic

France, July 2020: Hot on the heels of the huge success of the inaugural PWN Global Gender Balanced Leadership Awards in November 2019, PWN Global launched into planning its second edition of the Awards for November 2020. Little did they know that the universe had planned other things for 2020!

After several months of watching, waiting, and continuing to diligently plan for another great event – celebrating the tremendous work of people around the world who are excelling in advancing gender balanced leadership – the volunteers of PWN Global have taken the decision to move their awards ceremony to 4th November 2021. The event will remain in Dublin, Ireland, and take place at the beautiful venue of Clontarf Castle

Crina Furlong, PWN Global Co-President

In this period of uncertainty, we are seeing many of our corporate partners observing international travel bans to protect their workforces around the world” says Carina Furlong, Dublin-based Co-President of PWN Global. She continues, “This, coupled with the fact that some organisations are implementing austerity measures to preserve jobs, makes it feel inappropriate to be asking people to travel to a celebration event at this time.

Sheila Gemin, PWN Global Co-PresidentPWN Global recognises the need to shine a spotlight on the success stories that are building momentum in advancing gender balanced leadership, so we are intent on keeping the Awards Ceremony alive and well in 2021”, reports Sheila Gemin, Amsterdam-based Co-President of PWN Global. “Research is already showing that women are going to experience the brunt of the negative impact, on their professional lives, as a result of the pandemic. It’s more important now, than ever, that we keep our foot on the pedal and use our new digital environment to accelerate, not stall, the advancement of gender balanced leadership.

PWN Global extends its gratitude to corporate sponsors who had already signed up to sponsor award categories in 2020. ESBKilinç Law Associates and Irish Rail have all committed to move their sponsorship from the original 2020 date to the 2021 Awards.

We ask you all to SAVE THE DATE: 4th November 2021, at a time when everybody will be in need of some good news stories and celebration of progress through the darkest times.

PWN Global, a membership organisation, comprising over 3000 members, representing 90+ nationalities in  29 city networks, has built its brand on delivering high-quality events and learning and development programs to support the advancement of gender balanced leadership in the workplace and in society at large. During this period of pandemic, the volunteers leading the organisation of associations have had to quickly adapt to the new environment by transitioning to an online delivery model.

“With our members in lockdown, our support network became more important than ever. Moving from physical events to a more online focused strategy was inevitable – COVID-19 has simply accelerated the need” says Razwana Wahid, President of PWN Barcelona. “I am so proud of the way our volunteers were able to show commensurate professionalism in adapting our offer so that we could continue to serve our members through this period. In return, they have shown us the much-needed loyalty that our network depends on for survival.”

Thanks to the impact of COVID-19, and PWN’s efforts to strive for a delivery model that connects people across industry, geographical boundary and seniority level – they now boast a webinar library featuring over 70 hours of learning and development content that can be accessed anytime, anywhere, by all its members.
